Face of the Day | A Lil' Somethin' Extra

This is the make-up I wore on this day when I went for some casual Sunday afternoon drinks.

A bright red lip doesn't necessarily screen 'casual Sunday', but I just felt like adding a lil' somethin' extra, ya know? Nothing like a spot of bold lippy to lift your mood :)

My highlighters #1: The Body Shop Brush on Radiance

One of my key aims when I'm wearing make-up is to make myself look more awake, alert and healthy. My favourite trick to achieve this is to use highlighter. I usually apply it to the tops of my cheekbones, and often also work it upwards to my temples to draw attention to my eyes.

I'm going to be bold and say that this is my favourite from my little collection of highlighters: It's called Brush on Radiance, from The Body Shop.

I love that it has different coloured pearls. They give a pretty decent shimmer to the skin - If you're after something sheer and glowy, this may be ever so slightly too glittery for you. But, as we all know, I love glitter, and the tiny, tiny glitter particles in this give the perfect amount of radiance that I'm after. For me, this is the perfect everyday highlighter - I don't leave the house without it!

Do you like to wear highlighter as well? What are some of your favourites?

Your Personal Colour Palette | Part 2

If you missed last week's post explaining the concept behind your Personal Colour Palette, you can take a peek here.

This week we're applying the same concept to create an evening make up look.

And we're using my face as an example again :)

Here I've gone for a similar peachy-pink toned blush as last time. On my eyes, I've combined a chocolate brown (a similar colour to my eyes) with a golden bronze (like my hair colour). And finally, on my lips I've got a swipe of a dark orange lip crayon.

So there you have it - My trick to using make up colours that will always compliment the colour tones that are naturally in your face and hair.

Have you given this trick a try? If you have, I'd love to know how you went! Send me a photo or let me know in the comments :)

Outfit of the Day | Weekend Markets

This is what I wore when my boyfriend and I went to check out some local fruit and veg markets on the weekend.

It's one of those outfits that looks put-together, but is super duper easy to throw on.

The Playlist #1

These are the songs I've been listening to non-stop lately:

One. I went to the restaurant in Tokyo where this video was filmed - It was super fun!
Two. There's a more pared-down version of this on Bastille's album, which is also so good.
Three. This song stirs up all kinds of emotions.
Four. Does it get any more epic than this?
Five. Everytime this song comes on when I'm on a jog, it makes me go a teensy bit faster. Ultimate girl power!

What's been on your music playlist lately?

What's in my travel make up bag

I recently went to Japan for a holiday, and I made this video before I left. It's all about what make up I planned to take - Each product had to be small in size and also versatile.

Hope you enjoy the video!

What products do you like to take away on holiday? I'd love to hear your suggestions!

Your Personal Colour Palette | Part 1

It can sometimes be pretty tricky picking out make up colours that you know are going to suit you, especially if you're just starting out with make up. Here's one trick I use to nail it every time.

I call it your Personal Colour Palette.

What you need to do is look carefully at your face in a mirror. What colours can you see? Let's start off with your skin colour. Is it pink-toned? Or maybe your skin is more warm-toned, like mine.

What about your eye colour? For eyes, don't just stop at, say, 'brown'. What kind of brown? Are they light or dark?

Now let's move on to hair. Again, try to describe your hair colour in more specific ways than simply 'blonde' or 'brunette'.

Okay, so now that you've worked out the colours in your face... Voila! This is your Personal Colour Palette. My tip to picking make up colours that will suit you every. single. time. is to go for different shade of the colours in your Personal Colour Palette. Need an example? Let's use my face :)

I have pale, warm-toned skin, dark brown eyes, and ginger hair. In these photos, I've created a daytime make up look using colours from my Personal Colour Palette. I've used an eyeshadow in a super similar shade to my hair, and my blush is a peachy pink. My lips are bare, since I don't usually wear lip colours during the day.

Stay tuned for Part 2 of this post next Tuesday, where we'll try out a night time look using this same trick. In the meantime, let me know if you try out this trick and how it works for you!

Face of the Day | Out To Dinner

This is the make-up look I wore out to dinner the other night.

I'm wearing a lot of 'bold' lips at the moment and usually I go for a subtle brown eye shadow, but this time I thought 'd shake things up with some neutral pinks.

Maybe next time I should shake it up even more and try an ever-so-slightly darker eye. What do you think?

The Week In Links #1

Things I've loved on the internet this week:

1. I currently have a huge stash of cookies and cream chocolate in my fridge, ready to try out this frozen hot chocolate recipe

2. My grandparents used to have a bathtub like this one, and I'd love to have one myself one day

3. This red carpet make-up look by Lisa Eldridge on Keira Knightley is simply stunning, and may just be one of my favourite looks of all time

4. I'm super keen to try out this braid style on my short hair

5. I absolutely adore this editorial on The Glamourai - So much vibrant colour, and the make-up looks are so inspiring

What links have you been loving this week?

Outfit of the Day | Dinner Date

This is what I wore the other night when my boyfriend and I went out to dinner with some friends. I was seriously in the mood for some sparkle! ;)

Sequined top Forever 21 // Faux leather skirt Bondi Markets // Heels London Rebel // Earrings H&M

Outfit of the Night | Festive Party

This is an outfit I wore to a Christmas party last month. It's not super Christmas-y though, so I'd wear this to any party in the summer - Minus the Rudolph earrings ;)

My current favourite nail polishes

I am absolutely obsessed with nailpolish! I constantly have polish on my nails (both fingers and toes) and my collection is ever growing. It's become a sort of weekly ritual for me to paint my nails - I find it really relaxing and uplifting to change my nail colour with my mood.

Here are my current absolute favourites in my collection!

Newest nailpolishes
Meet some of the newest additions to my collection - I bought these beauties in Urban Outfitters on my recent trip to the USA, and I just love them! I've already worn them heaps.

L-R: Urban Outfitters nailpolishes in Cocktail & Smush

Neautrals
Oh my, do I love me a neutral shade! I have to say, as much as I love bright nailpolishes, I just keep going back to creams, beiges and browns. I wear a lot of white and cream coloured clothes, so these kind of polishes go with so much.

L-R: Borghese polishes in Luna Pearl & Biscotto Beige, Butter London polish in Yummy Mummy

Pastels
One of my best friends bought me this coral pink Essie nail polish for my birthday last year, and in case you haven't noticed my blog name, coral is one of my favourite colours! After my neautrals, these three are the shades I wear the most - This baby blue one is so cute.

L-R: Essie polish in Tart Deco, NYC Color polish in Blue Bird, Beauty Style polish in Tokyo Tangerine

Ulta 3
This brand is going to get it's own section, because I just love it so much! These beauties cost only $3, which is an absolute steal in Australia, where cosmetics in general are quite pricey. For what they're worth, I think they're awesome - They have a pretty wide range of colours, and they seem to add new shades regularly.

L-R: Ulta 3 polishes in Carrot Top, French Nude & Crystallina

Glitter
This is only a tiny selection of my glitter polishes - For some reason, I am just obsessed with glitter. The Sally Hansen polish is so dense with glitter, that with two coats of it, my nails are totally covered in sparkles - No base colour required! The Ulta 3 gold polish looks really lovely just painted on the tips of my nails.

L-R: Ulta 3 polish in Gold Digger, Sally Hansen Gem Crush Nail Colour in Razzle Dazzle

Minis
These cute little polishes came in a limited edition OPI set, called Little Romantics. I just had to include them because they're so sweet. These two look really pretty layered over the top of each other.

L-R: OPI polishes in Sweet Heart & Princesses Rule!

What are your absolute favourite nailpolishes? Do you have any of these ones yourself?

Frankie Magazine Daily Journal 2014

I've always been super picky with the kind of diaries I use - They have always had to have been a week-to-a-page and with the times during the day (9am, 10am...) all written in for me. Yep, really finnicky stuff!

But of course, this meant that I had to always go with boring diaries. None of the pretty ones ever met all my 'criteria'.

But now that I'm working full time and not studying, my days are usually pretty stock-standard. I don't have as many appointments each day as I used to. So I don't need all the times written in and I don't need so much room to write.

So I decided to branch out a bit this year and get a really pretty diary! Yay!

This year's Frankie Magazine Daily Journal was actually one of the first diaries I looked at late last year when I was shopping for a 2014 diary. And it instantly warmed my heart. The design is just simply delightful, and these days writing appointments in my diary has become one of life's little joys :)

The diary also has come cute little shopping lists you can pull out to take on errands. There are also some cute stickers (!), postcards, room for addresses and even a spot to list all your friends and family's birthdays.

So overall, this is one of the sweetest purchases I've made recently - Super handy and cute to boot!

Have you bought a 2014 diary yet? Are you as picky as me when it comes to diaries?

My ring collection

I wear a lot of big, chandelier earrings, and I've always felt the best complementary jewellery to those are rings. I don't have a huge collection, but I can definitely see it growing in the future!

I bought this tea cup and saucer ring from Brick Lane markets when I was in London. A few nights later, I went to an Alice in Wonderland-themed bar where they served cocktails in teacups - I poured some of one of our cocktails into my ring, about half of one sip - Yep, easily amused!

If I remember right, I think I bought this key ring at Diva, which is a jewellery chain store here in Australia. I really like it because it's quite small - definitely not knuckle duster-sized - so it doesn't get in the way when I wear it.

These two silver flower rings were hand-me-downs from my aunty, and I think they were some of the first items I put on when I started wearing rings regularly.

I bought this cute camera ring from Brick Lane markets as well. I also have a matching necklace from Diva, which my sister found for me!

My most recent ring purchase. I really like the colours together. This one's from Colette by Colette Hayman.

Lastly, this one, with different shades of green, was another Diva purchase. Diva have the occasional awesome $3-5 sale, so that's where I get most of my rings. I have a lot of green earrings, so this one gets worn a lot.

So, I think what we've learned here today is that I pretty much only buy rings from $3 sales at chain stores, or from markets! I never like to spend a lot on jewellery, so for me, those are the best places to go for my jewellery fix!

Do you wear rings a lot too? How do you like to wear them?
